My Grandaddy was definitely a character. He was loud and outspoken, funny, loving to all the grandkids and VERY opinionated all at the same time! I have so many random memories throughout the years as we are a very close family - and by close, I mean we all live next door to each other! I remember all the times my sisters and I would spend the night with him and my Memaw, and we would get up super early and cook breakfast for everyone. I don't really remember if it tasted good or not, but he always ate every last bit.
I also remember how he had to cleverly hide me from Memaw when she was chasing me with rubbing alcohol trying to pour it on my knee - OUCH!
Every Thanksgiving and Christmas he would tell my mom that the dressing she cooked was the best he had every had...I always thought it tasted the same, but what do I know. :)
He also made the funniest whistling noise when pronouncing "s" words...all the grandkids got a kick out of it!
I could go on and on...but the point is that he made such an impression on everyone around him and I am very lucky to have had him in my life. It was proven to everyone in our family how much he was loved by the number of people that were there to support us last week. I also got the chance to look through tons of old photos of him from his younger years to now and realized what a great, long life he lived. His wedding pictures really showed how much he loved my Memaw and I couldn't be happier that they are together again.
He passed away at the age of 85 the day before Easter, which I believe to be very special.
